Missions

Led by the Spirit of God, we are passionate about relieving suffering and fighting injustice, joining the God of the oppressed in living out the transforming message of the resurrected Jesus. Jesus calls his church to be a compelling force for good in the world, and we believe that the church is at its best when it serves, sacrifices, and loves, caring about the things God cares about. We were created to live for something larger than ourselves.

We want to do more than just "serve" people - but stand with and among the marginalized and oppressed in our community - building relationships of grace and trust with each other. Our goal is to partner with organizations that are doing good in our community and follow their lead as to how to engage. We are just getting started - but here are the organizations we partner with:

  • OPEN MARKET

Open Table UMC is very proud to host the volunteer-run Open Market each Wednesday from 12pm-1pm. The market mission is to provide food-insecure individuals and families with food and spiritual encouragement. Our community is free from stigma and takes a no-questions-asked mentality. In addition to foodstuffs, we provide toiletries and household necessities, as well as clothing. Our recent partnership with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina has opened further opportunities to serve our community during these challenging economic times.

  • The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina (the Food Bank) is a nonprofit organization that has provided food for our friends and neighbors facing hunger in 34 counties in central and eastern North Carolina for over 40 years. Open Table is proud to volunteer with them (their facility is just a few blocks from our church building). To date we've helped pack over 16,000 meals with this organization!

  • Wrenn House is an emergency crisis shelter for kids ages 10-17, operating under Haven House Services of NC. We regularly volunteer to help clean rooms!

  • Since 1985, Habitat Wake has partnered with homebuyers, donors and volunteers to build more than 750 safe, affordable, energy-efficient homes in all parts of Wake and Johnston counties. We are passionate about affordable housing, and we fully support the work of Habitat Wake with our time and resources. We volunteer on builds quarterly- join us!
